Is Abby the right match for you?
I understand that being a young person today comes with unique pressures, challenges, and constant new influences. I have over 10 years of experience working in child and adolescent mental health as both a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. I have supported a wide range of young people, with a focus on those experiencing acute mental health crises, chronic mental health concerns, eating disorders, and involvement with the child welfare system.
I aim to build therapeutic relationships grounded in kindness, empathy, and respect. My approach involves active listening, thoughtful reflection, and collaborative planning to ensure care plans work for everyone involved. I also value teamwork and often work alongside other healthcare providers and community support systems to ensure comprehensive care.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I am able to assess, diagnose, prescribe, and monitor treatment for many common mental health conditions.
Education
I completed my Master of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner certification at Athabasca University, graduating in 2019. This program provided broad clinical exposure across the lifespan and reinforced my passion for working with children, youth, and their caregivers.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Toronto in 2011. Early in my training, I developed a strong interest in mental health and pursued additional courses and clinical placements in this area, which ultimately led me to specialize in mental health after graduation.
I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in French Literature from Trent University. While not directly related to my clinical practice, it supports my ability to provide care in French when needed.

Work Experience
I have worked as a Nurse and Nurse Practitioner at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) for nearly 15 years in a variety of clinical and leadership roles. Highlights of my experience include inpatient mental health and eating disorders, child and youth protection, and participation in the hospital’s COVID response team. I have also contributed as an instructor, lecturer, committee lead, and mentor to new staff.
In addition, I have a strong interest in camp medicine and spent several summers working as a camp nurse, providing care to both staff and campers. This role involved managing a wide range of physical and mental health needs and further strengthened my clinical judgment and adaptability.

If you are ready to book an appointment, you can book directly online or call Thrive Together Mental Wellness Centres at 1-800-765-4992.
For the first appointment, I recommend you book a 90-minute Initial Assessment and Treatment session, either online or in person. The extra time (over a regular 60-minute session) is because the first session is a busy one. In this session, we will establish a relationship, assess the presenting problem, identify goals, and ideally, I will do some teaching about the cognitive model and leave you with something to work on before your second session.
If you would rather book a regular 60 minute session for the first appointment feel free to do so. We will fit as much into the time as we can.
Be sure to choose the appointment option that matches your preference - in person or online. If you want to switch between in-person and online at a later date, email us and we will update your appointment.
Booking Your Appointment
If you are ready to book a first session, your first visit will need to be scheduled through our Care Navigation team by calling 343-882-6766 or emailinginfo@thrivetogether.ca.
Alternatively, you may book directly online if you would like to start with a complimentary Navigation Call with our Care Concierge team.
Our Care Concierge team is trained to help clarify your goals and match you with the most appropriate services and providers so your care is clear, efficient, and well-aligned from the start.
Account Creation
When booking an appointment online, you will be prompted to create an account through our secure online platform.
This account allows you to view availability and schedule appointments online. You will be asked to provide some personal information, such as your age and contact details, to complete your registration.
Scheduling Recommendations
Scheduling with a Nurse Practitioner varies depending on your needs and the type of care being provided. Some individuals may require more frequent appointments at the beginning of treatment, while others may need less frequent check-ins over time.
Your Nurse Practitioner will work with you to determine an appropriate follow-up schedule based on your goals, progress, and any ongoing treatment needs.
Preparing for Your First Session
After you have created your online account, there is paperwork to complete before your first appointment. You will be asked to read about and consent to our clinic policies. You may also be asked to complete questionnaires with background information about you and your reasons for seeking services.
Please take the time to complete these forms, it helps ensure that we make good use of time during your appointment.
